Beschreibung
Extraudio DAC2 R2R MK2 (Quad R2R) — Manufacturer Demo Unit, White Finish, Heavily Discounted
This is a manufacturer demonstration unit, functionally and sonically as new, sold with a full 3-year manufacturer warranty starting from the date of purchase (not from the original demo date). It is finished in Extraudio's exclusive White colourway — a factory option normally priced at €990 on top of the standard finish, bringing the full retail price of a new white DAC2 R2R MK2 to €21,420. The only imperfection on this unit is one very small paint chip (approximately 2mm²) on the top panel — clearly shown in the photos — which explains the steep discount against that retail price.
The Extraudio DAC2 is the flagship expression of Extraudio's proprietary R2R ladder conversion philosophy: a true dual-mono digital-to-analog converter built around a discrete resistor-ladder architecture (roughly 600 ultra-precision Vishay Foil Resistors at 0.01% tolerance, 28–32 bit depth, dual-FPGA linearity correction) rather than an off-the-shelf Delta-Sigma chip. The goal is a conversion that avoids digital harshness altogether, favouring texture, spatiality and a genuinely analog character.
Key specifications:
Proprietary Quad R2R ladder DAC topology, true dual-mono architecture
Power supply built with extreme care: 3 custom quad medical-grade transformers, 6 fully separate power supplies, a 60,000 µF parallel capacitor bank and 18 Schottky diodes, for an exceptionally low noise floor
Two distinct sets of analog outputs: a purist direct R2R output (no active output stage, shortest possible signal path) and a Class A biased BJT output stage (higher voltage, faster and more dynamic), so you can match the character to your preamp/amp
Frequency response: 5 Hz – 750 kHz, ±0 dB; signal-to-noise ratio > 132 dB; jitter as low as 0.3 pS RMS typical
Fully modular design — USB and I²S/Bluetooth modules can be upgraded in the future without replacing the whole DAC
Extensive connectivity: RCA & BNC SPDIF, XLR AES/EBU, optical, isolated USB 2.0, proprietary I²S module (RJ45/HDMI, 10-position selector) and Bluetooth 5.0 aptX HD / LDAC
Handles up to 24-bit/768 kHz PCM and DSD512 via USB/I²S
Aircraft-grade 6000-series aluminium chassis with an exclusive ultra-matte ceramic finish — this unit in Extraudio's White colourway
Hand-assembled and soldered in the Netherlands
Frequently asked questions
Is this a new unit or a demo unit? It's a manufacturer demonstration unit, functionally flawless, with a single tiny cosmetic paint chip (~2mm²) on the top panel — hence the significant price reduction versus a brand-new unit.
Does the warranty still apply to a demo unit? Yes — the full 3-year manufacturer warranty applies from the date of purchase, exactly as it would on a new unit.
Why three transformers and six power supplies? This level of power-supply separation is what gives the DAC2 a genuinely dual-mono architecture, isolating digital and analog sections channel by channel for a lower noise floor and a more stable, three-dimensional stereo image.
What's the difference between the R2R direct output and the Class A output? The direct R2R output is the purest, shortest signal path with no active stage; the Class A BJT output delivers higher voltage and more speed, dynamics and punch.
Can I audition it before buying? Yes, an in-person listening session with your own source, preamp/amp and speakers is the best way to evaluate it.
