Antipodes Audio K22 G4 – Music Server, Streamer & Reclocker
The Antipodes K22 G4 is a versatile high-end digital source from New Zealand, designed for listeners who want maximum quality from both local music storage and streaming services such as Qobuz and Tidal. The unit combines three functions in one chassis: music server, streamer, and reclocker.
Features
The K22 supports a wide range of software and playback methods: Roon (Core and endpoint), Squeeze (server and player), MPD, MinimServer, UPnP/DLNA, HQPlayer NAA, Plex, Sonos, and Shairport. Outputs include USB, S/PDIF, AES/EBU, and I2S — compatible with virtually any DAC. The intuitive web interface allows switching between configurations in seconds. The unit can also function as a pure streaming endpoint. An internal SSD of up to 8TB can be user-installed for a local music library (see photo).
The G4 upgrade (performed in 2024) brought an improved USB output matching the quality of the other digital outputs, enhanced power supply technology derived from the flagship model, and optimized isolation footers for better mechanical decoupling.
Sound
Reviewed by a respected Dutch audiophile platform: the sound is full, tonally saturated, and harmonically rich — with no trace of dryness or leanness. The midrange has bloom and warmth, the soundstage is both wide and deep. This is a presentation that doesn't analyse but draws you in: musically involving, smooth, and non-fatiguing over long listening sessions. The bass is planted and meaty without becoming vague or sluggish. With the G4 upgrade, the last remaining roughness of the previous generation has been eliminated — smoother, richer, and sweeter, while dynamics and drive remain fully intact.
