Description
Active speakers from KS Audio in a walnut cabinet
I am a passionate woodworker, and I have been able to combine my craftsmanship with my greatest passion: music.
I made the fronts from solid walnut, which I glued together in bookmatching (mirror-symmetrical). This was the biggest challenge. The natural transition from the dark heartwood to the light sapwood is highlighted even more beautifully by the mirroring.
The front is made as narrow as possible to reduce unwanted reflections. The side walls are curved at a small radius and also veneered in bookmatching, which aligns perfectly with the fronts.
Are you coming from far away, and would you still like to come and listen to these speakers without obligation? I can arrange a delicious Rotterdam lunch for you with good coffee.
Collaboration with KS Audio
Just like with my previous projects, I haven't reinvented the wheel when it comes to speaker construction. Developing a good system is very complex, and the amount of knowledge and experience required is often underestimated.
This time, I entered into a close collaboration with KS Audio.
Thanks to their expertise and high-quality hardware, I was able to take a significant step towards perfection in active loudspeakers. During the construction process, they provided targeted advice, allowing us to get the most out of this system together.
KS Audio is a well-known name in Germany: among other things, they supplied the complete sound system for the world-famous Semperoper in Dresden. Their goal? A sound reproduction so true to life that the audience doesn't even notice the speakers are present.
That philosophy aligns perfectly with what I strive for. My speakers, too, were developed with an honest, pure sound image as the starting point – without coloration or distortion. I use exactly the same technique in this system.
Additionally, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Cees Ruijtenberg, an expert in the field of speaker construction. His experience and technical insight were of great value during this project. I myself focused entirely on timber construction – that is, after all, my specialty.
