Description
The T+A PA 2000 R integrated amplifier can deliver over 200 watts of continuous power per channel into 4-ohm speakers, allowing it to drive impedance-critical speakers while maintaining effortless control. Gold-plated, gas-tight contact relays are used to switch speakers, inputs, and internal signal circuitry with complete precision and zero loss. Separate tone controls are provided for each channel and can be completely bypassed along with the Loudness function.
The construction, circuit layout, components, and subassemblies of the two R-series integrated amplifiers are identical, but differ in output power, connection structures, and case dimensions. The input and output sections are equipped with professional sockets (XLR and RCA) made of non-magnetic materials, and all feature hard gold-plated contact surfaces. All sockets are permanently screwed to the solid aluminum rear panel.
In the R Series, volume control and input selection functions are handled by gas-tight, gold-plated, sealed relays, which are resistant to contact problems caused by corrosion, dust, or aging, even after many years of operation. Integrating the relays directly into the circuitry allows for the shortest possible signal paths, and signals pass from the input sockets to the preamplifier circuit boards without crosstalk.
The R Series preamplifiers and power amplifiers are built according to the dual mono principle. This means we completely isolate the left and right channels from each other, even mechanically, and use identical circuit boards, ensuring the sound quality of both channels is identical. The two separate amplifier boards—with the input section, volume control, high-voltage amplifier, and current amplification stage—are housed in the right half of the case, where they are shielded from the mains power supply and the output section by a massive heat sink. As with our HV series machines, the input stage circuit topology is based on a cascoded differential amplifier with hand-selected audio J-FET transistors and fully discrete construction stages, without operational amplifiers (op-amps).
This overall circuit design, combined with the high-quality components used, virtually eliminates the need for overall negative feedback. As a result, the amplifier boasts excellent linearity combined with an extremely wide dynamic range. Signals up to 60 Vss can be processed without any distortion. Volume control takes the form of discrete precision resistors and bistable gold-plated contact relays, resulting in absolutely precise channel matching combined with the shortest possible signal paths; this in turn virtually eliminates noise and distortion. The voltage amplifier stage and the subsequent current amplifier stage are completely galvanically isolated from each other. This uncompromising design completely avoids the risk of feedback effects from speaker currents in the voltage amplifier stages and also prevents negative effects from speaker loading. The amplifiers feature separate tone controls for each channel, and this function can be completely bypassed using gold-plated contact relays.
