Gamut D200i, D3i

GamuT D3i + D200i – High-end preamplifier and power amplifier pair in excellent condition

For sale: a GamuT D3i preamplifier and a GamuT D200i stereo power amplifier—a standout pairing from the Danish high-end manufacturer GamuT, now considered a classic.

Both units are in excellent, well-preserved condition, both aesthetically and technically, and are in perfect working order. The original factory boxes and the factory remote control are included.

Exceptional design – without compromise

One of the defining features of the D3i and D200i is their true dual-mono architecture.

In the D3i, the two channels are effectively completely independent; each has its own dedicated power supply and toroidal transformer. Furthermore, the power supply section is physically isolated from the sensitive audio circuitry. This design ensures minimal crosstalk, low noise, and exceptional stereo imaging.

The signal path in the D3i is extremely short and simple, featuring a J-FET input stage and a specialized 1 kΩ ALPS volume potentiometer, chosen specifically to minimize noise and inter-channel crosstalk.

The D200i follows this same philosophy, yet as a power amplifier, it employs even more sophisticated technical solutions. In the power amplifier stage, only two output MOSFETs are used per channel—one for the positive half-cycle and one for the negative—contrary to conventional designs that employ many parallel output transistors. According to GamuT’s philosophy, this approach avoids the distortions and temporal or dynamic uncertainties that arise from matching discrepancies between multiple parallel transistors.

The power supply of the D200i is also a true dual-mono design: each channel features its own 800 VA transformer. The enhanced power supply utilizes two bridge rectifiers—one for the positive rail and one for the negative—to ensure the lowest possible impedance and noise levels.

This exceptionally clean signal path, built with a minimal number of components, combined with a massive power supply capacity, gives the D200i one of its most compelling characteristics: the ability to deliver immense power while simultaneously producing a refined, natural, and three-dimensional sound.

Praise from International Reviews

*What Hi-Fi?* rated the D3i/D200i pairing as one of the best pre/power amplifier combinations they have ever heard. They highlighted its exceptional transparency and detail resolution, fluid presentation, high power output, and a stable, expansive stereo soundstage. They particularly appreciated that, despite its extraordinary level of detail, the system never becomes clinical or fatiguing. (What Hi-Fi?)

In its review of the D200i, *The Absolute Sound* also highlighted the simplicity of its design and its extraordinary current-delivery capability. According to the review, the amplifier produces a continuous, three-dimensional, and natural sound—a quality unusual for solid-state electronics—while retaining the control and dynamism characteristic of transistor-based amplifiers. (The Absolute Sound)

Perhaps the best summary of the GamuT philosophy is that it does not seek to achieve high power and resolution by increasing the number of components; rather, it focuses on simplifying the signal path, ensuring complete channel separation, and providing an exceptionally large power supply reserve.
