Pioneer XL-A700 - Fully Restored Quartz Direct-Drive Turntable (PL-570 JDM Equivalent)
For sale: a meticulously restored Pioneer XL-A700, the Japanese-market equivalent of the PL-570, Pioneer's flagship full-auto, direct-drive, quartz-locked deck from the golden era of Japanese hi-fi.
Cabinet: Re-veneered in Wenge hardwood, hand-finished with beeswax and linseed oil. Polished metal fittings, new custom dust cover.
Electronics & Mechanical: All three boards fully recapped (40 parts) with Nichicon PW, Panasonic FC, and WIMA film capacitors. Key transistors replaced. Both motors stripped, cleaned and re-oiled; full-auto mechanism degreased and re-lubricated. Transformer converted to 240VAC, ready to plug in across UK/EU.
Upgrades beyond original spec:
X2-rated (275VAC) mains safety capacitors at every snubber position, fitted on every deck without exception
Upgraded dual diodes for long-term reliability
Sealed Bourns cermet multi-turn trimmers, fully recalibrated to service manual spec
Auto-return timing gear replaced with newly machined PA12HP nylon part, timing fully overhauled
Gold-plated RCA output plate with ground terminal, replacing the original hardwired cable
Cartridge: Pioneer PC-330 Mark II MM with titanium pipe cantilever and rare-earth cobalt magnet, fitted with a new Tonar replacement stylus. Ready to play out of the box.
Specs: Direct drive, brushless DC servo motor; Quartz PLL speed control (+/-6% pitch); 324mm cast aluminium platter; S-shaped tonearm with VTA adjustment; full auto-start/return/cut/repeat; optical return detection; separate gear motor for auto-mechanism; 240VAC.
Condition: Speed is rock-solid on both 33 1/3 and 45 RPM, auto mechanism smooth and reliable, quartz lock clean. This is a ground-up restoration, not a cosmetic tidy-up.
