Description
I am selling high-end speakers from the British manufacturer ATC, model SCM40 in the current V2 version. Year of manufacture: 2019. Frequency response (-6 dB): 48 Hz–22 kHz.
This model is considered the absolute highlight of the manufacturer’s lineup. The sound quality is virtually unmatched compared to competing products in this price range. Numerous reviews freely available online speak for themselves. According to feedback from other owners, for most hi-fi enthusiasts in a sufficiently large room, this model already represents the dream of the perfect hi-fi system. It is a sealed speaker with extremely precise and detailed sound, particularly in the midrange. The bass is very fast and punchy, and the volume is impressive for an 8-inch driver. The treble reproduction is also on par with the rest.
The original packaging is included. This is a pair of speakers with serial numbers 12440 and 12441.
As a hi-fi enthusiast, I’ve tried to optimize my pair as much as possible. The result is outstanding: even greater spatial depth, a more powerful and dynamic bass, and greater naturalness and resolution. Compared to the already exceptionally successful series, this is a significant improvement—one that I’m not factoring into the price, despite the high cost. The price is typical for a used pair sold internationally.
Upgrades:
- The weight was increased from 31 to 43 kg per speaker to significantly boost rigidity and improve bass response.
- All capacitors and resistors in the crossover were replaced with Jantzen capacitors (Silver Z-Cap for the midrange and tweeter, Cross-Cap for the bass). They all have the same rating! I consulted with a renowned loudspeaker designer on-site. The sound character remains completely unchanged after the modification; only the resolution has been further improved from an already extremely high level.
- Pre-wired with a fully silver-plated OCC cable with a 2.5 mm² cross-section in Teflon. This replaces the standard 0.82 mm² cable.
- The terminals have been replaced with high-quality silver terminals, and a custom-made aluminum backplate was used instead of a plastic molded part.
- No Faston connectors; only soldered connections using silver solder.
- All metal parts have a chrome finish—this can be restored to its original condition (dark gray, see one of the photos) upon request before sale.
