Description
Headline: Spectral DMC-12 – Fully Restored & Upgraded by Dr. Kassel (Warranty until May 2028)
Description:
You are not looking at your usual vintage DMC-12 in average condition (often with dried-out electrolytic capacitors after 25 years!). This specific unit has been meticulously overhauled by the legendary Dr. Kassel in Germany. A quick Google search for "DMC-12 Kassel" will reveal the world-class level of his work, which elevates this Spectral DMC-12 to comfortably compete with modern high-end components. It performs exactly as if it were manufactured and sold today, despite its vintage soul.
In addition to replacing all electrolytic capacitors and performing a complete calibration (DC and offset), Dr. Kassel has reduced the preamp's massive gain by 9dB. This crucial upgrade allows for a much better interface with modern source components.
Condition & Aesthetics:
The unit shows some minor scratches, which are normal signs of aging, but nothing serious (please refer to the photos).
What is included:
• Original Power Supply: Included and operational (omitted in the photos but part of the sale). This is an original European market unit (220V-240V).
• The "Kassel Certificate": A dedicated booklet containing all post-service measurements, test results, and harmonic content analysis. These are specific data sheets for this exact unit—something you won't even get with a brand-new Spectral.
• Full Warranty: Covered by Dr. Kassel’s comprehensive warranty until May 2028 (original invoice and measurement booklet included!).
List of works performed:
• Full component inspection and verification
• Replacement of all electrolytic capacitors
• Gain reduction (-9dB) for modern system integration
• Full contact and RCA treatment
• Complete bias and offset calibration
• Audio testing and extensive listening sessions
• Comprehensive measurement report booklet
Terms of Sale:
No trades, no part-exchanges. Please, no lowball or ridiculous offers. Audiophiles who know Spectral are well aware that an unserviced DMC-12 with depleted capacitors sells for around €1,400–€1,700 with a standard 6-month shop warranty. This is a unique, future-proof, plug-and-play audiophile masterpiece
