Description
The LAiV Harmony DAC features a sleek, highly minimalist design. Its chassis is machined from a solid block of aluminum, boasting a premium finish and accented by solid brass controls. This level of construction is typically found in far more expensive products, and it incorporates top-tier components at every critical stage. Great care has been taken with every detail and the user experience, resulting in an impression of exceptional quality.
Technically, the Harmony DAC is a fully balanced, discrete R2R DAC supporting sampling rates up to DSD256 and PCM 768 kHz. The resistor ladder utilizes components with a 0.05% tolerance—a key factor in the incredibly noise-free soundstage the Harmony DAC delivers. It employs a Crystek CCHD-957 FEMTO clock, widely regarded as one of the best on the market in terms of price-to-performance ratio.
The modular design allows for future hardware upgrades should LAiV introduce new options for the Harmony. This modularity also offers a practical advantage in the event of a technical fault.
The power supply is built around a custom toroidal transformer with separate windings for individual circuits. Component quality is outstanding, featuring selected parts from Audio Note Kaisei and Rubycon ZLH that actively eliminate any power supply-related interference affecting sound quality.
The Harmony is designed for ease of use and offers a high degree of flexibility. The user experience itself was a key focus during development, as LAiV considers many DACs to be overly complex or unintuitive to use. On the Harmony, all settings and functions are easily readable on the clear OLED display, and the buttons are carefully positioned to ensure simple, straightforward operation.
The same applies to the included—and notably high-quality—remote control; it is crafted from premium aluminum and features the same type of buttons found on the Harmony unit itself. A unique feature of the remote is that it is fully configurable and even allows for the simultaneous control of two devices via a simple switch.
If you wish to synchronize the Harmony with an external clock, this can easily be done via the I2S input.
